What is a RAIN animal? How do I adopt one?
If you do want to adopt a cat or kitten, please fill out and submit a Pre-Approval Adoption Application or come by our adoption location.
Are you really ready for an animal companion? Read our article to make sure you are prepared before you adopt an animal for life.
All RAIN Cats and Kittens are...
- Spayed or neutered (they need to be at least 2 pounds-usually about 8-10 weeks old-for our vet to spay or neuter them)
- Tested negative for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV - feline AIDS)
- Vaccinated with a 4 in 1 vaccination (FVRCP-C); kittens will have had at least 2 in a series of 3 vaccinations
- Vaccinated for Rabies (if 5 months or older)
- Flea free - we use Advantage, Revolution and/or Frontline
- Treated for worms, bacteria and protozoans. Our cats and kittens are treated for roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, coccidia and giardia whether or not they are detected. Most of our rescued felines come from situations where they have been exposed to these infectious bugs.
- Microchipped (internal microchip ID implanted)
- Healthy and socialized
- Come with 1 free month of ShelterCare Pet Insurance - free pet insurance for your newly adopted cat or kitten courtesy of Petfinder.com and ShelterCare Pet Insurance Programs. We register your new pet for you and send you the policy information
- Adopted out with their medical information and a resume so that you know all health, vet care and personality of your newly adopted pet.
Because our cats and kittens live in foster homes, we know their likes and dislikes. They are fostered with other felines and may also be fostered with dogs. Some are also fostered in homes with kids. We really know what they are like and how they like to live and love! When you adopt from RAIN you will receive their animal resume which will tell you all about them!
Our feline adoption fee is $80. This only partially reimburses us for the amount of money we spend on each kitten or cat. If two cats are adopted together, we do offer a reduced adoption fee of $140.
PLEASE NOTE: RAIN limits the adoption of our animals to people who live within the general Sacramento Valley area. We generally only adopt to people who live within one hour of Sacramento. If you live out of these areas, please adopt from a local animal shelter or animal rescue organization. Because our animals MUST be returned to our organization if the adoption does not work out, we need to make sure that we are able to retrieve the animal if necessary.
Where Can I See RAIN's Adoptable Animals?
RAIN holds adoptions at the following location. Not all animals will be at the adoption sites each weekend. If you are interested in a specific animal, please submit a Pre-Approval Adoption Application and specify which animal you are interested in. We can then put you in touch with the foster parent or let you know where the animal will be!
EVERY SATURDAY: 12 pm to 3 pm at Petco - 7715 Laguna Blvd, Elk Grove, CA, corner of Laguna and Bruceville in the Target/Borders Books Shopping Center (916) 683-5155
